This past weekend everyone had Friday off for Día de la Constitución, and my roommate Davinia invited me to spend the long weekend with her in her town, Cervera de Pisuerga. Friday morning we took the train to Aguilar de Campo, where her grandmother lives, and spent a few hours there before her mom picked us up and took us to Cervera de Pisuerga.
Both of these towns were beautiful! Aguilar de Campo has a castle perched on a hill, and much of the original city walls still stand.
When Davinia’s mom picked us up, we first went to the pantano, or reservoir, that provides most of the water to the region of Palencia. The water level is severely low because of a very dry summer, but it was still very pretty, especially the view from above…
We then continued on to Cervera de Pisuerga. We dropped our stuff at the apartment and Davinia showed me around the town. With the leaves changing and the striking architecture, Cervera de Pisuerga is very beautiful. It is nestled between the mountains of Palencia, and is all the more cozy and gorgeous for it.
There is even a museum dedicated to the Palentine Mountain, with information about all of the different animals and wildlife that can be found there. Outside of the museum, there is a statue of a bear that is said to bring good luck to whoever takes a picture with it! (So of course I did!)
Traveling to Davinia’s hometown made for a very good weekend—it was wonderful to be able to experience a small Spanish pueblo and see more of Spain! I am also grateful that I got to practice my Spanish all weekend long!
