My first post on my grand adventure…

As most of you probably know, I am spending the next ten months or so in Palencia, Spain, as a teaching assistant in a Spanish high school.

I arrived with my uncle in Madrid on Friday, and since then have already had quite a few adventures! After getting set up on Friday and Saturday, and since everything is closed on Sundays, my uncle and I decided to drive up to Santander, a port city on the northern coast of Spain, about two hours north of Palencia.

After having lunch upon our arrival, we walked around the port and older part of the city, seeing the cathedral and many impressive buildings. We then continued onto the Palace of Magdalene, where the royal family lived in the late 1800s. Also there was a great view of the Bay of Biscay.

We had an amazing day trip!

Today we went apartment hunting, and fell in love with the second one we looked at! I now have two Spanish roommates: Virginia and Davinia, and I move in in the next few days.

More posts (and pictures) to come on the idiosyncrasies of Spanish culture and what I’m learning along the way!
