Crawford County Fair, round 2

Following Saturday’s successful show, I attended the Crawford County Fair on Tuesday for the second concert, The Eli Young Band and Thompson Square. Both are (relatively) new acts, at least compared to Alan Jackson, but both are seeing much success on the charts.

First was The Eli Young Band, who has several hits right now: “Even if it Breaks Your Heart” and “Crazy Girl” among them. They performed very well even though the lead singer admitted to having a cold.

The Eli Young Band has a definite less country sound than Alan Jackson–there is no twang (at least that I can hear) and more of a rock edge to their music, which I thoroughly enjoy. Hey, even a diehard country fan can only handle so much twang. 😉

Next up was Thompson Square, who I was looking forward to quite a bit more, if only because they are a married couple and rumored to be super adorable on the stage.

In that, they didn’t disappoint. They played up their relationship, sometimes making fun of one other and at other times looking into one another’s eyes and kissing, sharing an extremely private moment as if they were all alone and not in front of a thousand or more people.

Thompson Square has the same kind of sound as The Eli Young Band, which made for a very complementary show. What I love about Thompson Square, however, are the numerous love songs on their first and only album up to this point.

They sing about fighting, making up, spending forever together, and any other topic two people in love with each other could imagine. They are totally relatable and sang all of the songs from their album, including my favorites: “Are you Gonna Kiss Me or Not?” and “Glass”.

They also talked about the artists they admired, which included other country couples–namely, Johnny and June. They then proceeded to sing “Jackson,” my favorite song by Johnny and June. Even though the rendition wasn’t the best I’ve ever heard, I still appreciated learning a little bit about Thompson Square the couple.

Like I have said before, I hope the Crawford County Fair can continue to provide exceptional performances! Thus far, they have done an amazing job. Previous shows include Brad Paisley, Josh Turner and Lady Antebellum.
