Blinking will get you every time. Parpadear te agarra cada vez.

Quite literally, I can’t comprehend how a year has already passed since I was driving to the Buffalo airport on my way to Spain for a year. I was absolutely terrified. There is no other word for it. Terrified of the unknown, mainly, but also terrified that I wouldn’t be able to make it with my Spanish.

Of course, my terror passed soon after I got there–it took like one week, maybe less–and I found that I really enjoyed living there. You all know how much I loved it; I talk about it all the time. 🙂 First chance I get, I am going back.

But this post isn’t about going back or missing it (well, kind of) but rather about the fact that a YEAR has passed. Holy shit! It feels like I didn’t even go…like I should be preparing to go there still. If I didn’t have the wonderful memories, I wouldn’t believe that I had gone and lived there for a year and now am already back and on to new things. I just can’t get past this idea in my mind.

When I think of Spain, I think of café con leche, zumo de naranja natural, bulls and dust, croquetas, and the feeling of walking through the streets feeling like I belong. Because I don’t have that feeling anymore, generally speaking. Yes, I feel like I belong in Bloomington, but do I feel like i belong in the U.S.? No. No. No.

Enough rambling about that. Before I left for Spain, someone told me, “Blink a few times and it will be over.” I smiled and shook my head at the thought, but damn those blinks! They get you every time.

No. No. No.
