A month ago today I was running through airports with 150 pounds of luggage (not exaggerating) as I made my way home from the best year of my life.
And now it has already been a month of being home, 30 days of wishing myself back to a far away place that already seems like a dream.
Did I really live in Spain for almost a year? Did I really travel all over Europe? Did I really meet the people I remember, do the things I did?
In my 10 months in Spain, I traveled to 17 different cities within Spain, and also to 9 different countries: Portugal, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Poland, Italy, Turkey and Morocco. Morocco was my 20th country and Africa was my fourth continent.
You think I’d be ready to rest, but as soon as I was on the bus to the Madrid airport, I thought to myself: What if I get stuck in the U.S.? What if I forget how much I love to travel, and become comfortable with staying where I am?
It’s true that I won’t have money to travel for at least a couple years, and I wanted to do something that would remind me of the country I love, and the place where I am meant to be.
So I got this.
It’s on the inside of my right ring finger, and every time I miss Spain, or something or someone about Spain, I just look at my tattoo and remind myself that someday I will be back. And if I don’t go back for good, then I will go back often.
My adopted country taught me more in one year about who I want to be and the person I am than my native country did in 20 years. So thank you Spain, y nos vemos pronto. 🙂
