“La Segunda Vida de Bree Tanner,” Stephenie Meyer (“The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner”)
"The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" is a short novella stemming from one of the characters from “Eclipse,” the third novel in the Twilight saga. One of the moms whose kids I give classes to gave it to me to read, knowing that I like Twilight and that I also like to read in Spanish. Bree is a newborn vampire created to kill Bella, and the novel gives us the background of her life: how she was created, what her previous life was like, and why she made the decisions she made in “Eclipse.” Although very short (220+ pages), and simply written, “The Short Second Life” was interesting because it ties many of the details together for us Twihards.
"La Segunda Vida de Bree Tanner" es una novela corta que se origina de una de las personajes de “Eclipse,” la tercera novela in la saga Crepúsculo. Una de las madres que doy clases a sus ninos me la dio para leer porque sabe que me gusta Crepúsculo y también me gusta leer en español. Bree es una vampira recién nacida que fue creada para matarle a Bella, y la novela nos da al fondo de su vida: cómo fue creada, cómo estaba su previa vida, y por qué hizo las decisiones que hizo en “Eclipse.” Aunque muy corta (220+ páginas), y escrito sencillamente, “La Segunda Vida” fue interesante porque atan muchas detallas para nosotros Twihards.
“The Return,” Victoria Hislop
Set in 2001 in London and Granada, “The Return” follows the story of Sonia, a middle-aged woman in an unhappy marriage who begins to take dance lessons. Her lessons lead her to Granada, to an cafe where an old man tells her the story of a family that will change her life. The family was the previous owners of the cafe and lived during the tyrannical reign of Franco–of which many of the members did not survive. This leads to a shocking revelation for Sonia and the old man. Although with its subject matter “The Return” promises to be a fabulous story set in a time that we don’t know much about, Hislop’s simple writing decreases the quality of what could have been a stunning book. The plot is also so basic that I guessed it halfway through.
Se desarollaba en 2001 en Londres y Granada, “The Return” sigue el cuento de Sonia, una mujer de mediana edad en un matrimonio infeliz quien empieza escoger clases de baile. Sus clases la dirige a Granada, a un café donde un hombre mayor la dice la historia de una familia que cambiará su vida. La familia fue el propetario anterior del cafe y vivieron durante el reinado tyránico de Franco–del cual muchos de los miembros de la familia no sobrevivieron. Eso resulta en una revelación impactante para Sonia y el hombre mayor. Aunque la materia de “The Return” promete a ser una historia fabulosa que se desarolla en un tiempo de que no sabemos mucho, la escritura simple de Hislop disminue la calidad de que podría haber sido un libro impresionante. También la trama es tan básico que la adiviné por la mitad.
