“The Unbearable Lightness of Being,” Milan Kundera
"The Unbearable Lightness of Being" is a book about two couples living in Prague in the 1960s. Tereza showed up on Tomas’ doorstep like “a bulrush basket” and has been with him ever since. He loves her, but also loves to sleep with other women and cannot change himself for Tereza. Tereza’s life is one of pain, anguish and jealousy when Tomas is not there and one of happiness, forgetting and lightness when he is. The second couple is Sabina and Franz, who are having an affair. Franz is married but passionately in love with Sabina, but Sabina is adamant about the fact that she belongs to no one but herself. Bringing in philosophy and reason, Kundera shows readers the complicated side of love–the many different faces of non-monogamous love and how the affected parties feel–in a beautiful and compelling story.

Tereza apareció en el umbral de Tomas como "una cesta de espadaña” y ha estado con él desde entonces. ´Tomas la ama, pero también le encanta tener relaciones con muchas otras mujeres, y no puede cambiarse para Tereza. La vida de Tereza es una de dolor, angustia y celos cuando Tomas no está, y una de felicidad, olvidando y ligereza cuando él está. La segunda pareja es Sabina y Franz, que están teniendo un lío. Franz está casado pero apasionadamente enamorado de Sabina, pero Sabina es firme sobre el hecho de que ella no pertenece a nadie, sólo a ella misma. Usar la filosofía y la lógica, Kundera les muestra a los lectores la parte complicada de amor–las muchas faces diferentes de amor no monógamo y cómo los grupos afectados sienten–en una historia hermosa y absorbente.

“Estrella distante,” Roberto Bolaño
"Estrella distante,“ or "Distant Star”, by Roberto Bolaño is set in Chile in the years directly after the assassination of President Allende, when many people were exiled from the country. One of these is Arturo B., the narrator and also possibly the author himself, who is reflecting on his acquaintance Carlos Wieder, who is now thought to be a criminal and who numerous people, Arturo B. among them, are looking for. Wieder, going by many different names, first brought himself to attention when he had an exhibition for his photography. One by one, as people leave the room, all are either sick or in tears. When the narrator finally enters the room, he sees hundreds of photos of tortured and dead women, and understands Wieder to be more twisted and complicated than he had thought before.
"Estrella distante" por Roberto Bolaño, tiene lugar en Chile después de los años directamente después del asesinato de Presidente Allende, cuando mucha gente fue exiliada del país. Uno de estos es Arturo B., el narrador y también posiblemente el autor mismo, quien está reflejando sobre su conocido Carlos Wieder, quien ahora es pensado a ser un criminal y quien muchas personas, incluyendo Arturo B., está buscando.
