“Don Alvaro,” Duque de Rivas
"Don Alvaro" continues with the theme of honor of the Siglo de Oro period, in that he comes from the Indies as ‘new money’ and falls in love with Leonor, whose father disapproves. They try to run away but are caught and Don Alvaro ends up killing her father and one of her brothers. She goes to a convent to save her honor, and when Alvaro finally finds her there, he discovers that her brother is also there, and her brother kills her to punish Alvaro for ruining his family. Alvaro then kills himself. This is known as one of the bloodiest works dealing with the honor theme, and one can see why. Every character Rivas introduces us to dies.
"Don Alvaro" continua con el tema del honor del periodo del Siglo de Oro, en que él viene de los Indies como ‘dinero nuevo’ y se enamora con Leonor, cuyo padre no aprueba. Ellos intentan huirse pero se atrapa el padre de ella, y Don Alvaro termina en matar él y uno de sus hermanos. Ella va a un convento para salvar su honor, y cuando finalmente Alvaro la encuentra, se da cuenta de que su hermano también está aquí, y su hermano la mata para castigar a Alvaro para arruinar su familia. Después Alvaro se suicida. Esto se conoce como una de las obras más sangrienta, y se ve por qué. Cada personaje que nos introduce Rivas, muere.

“Don Juan Tenorio,” Jose Zorrilla
A bit of a different don than Don Alvaro, Don Juan Tenorio is perhaps the most famous version of the Don Juan character: lying, cheating and killing his way into the beds of over a thousand women. Don Juan and his close friend make a bet that they can do more damage, and although Don Juan wins, it comes with a price–he kills his fiancee’s father, she dies of heartbreak, and he begins his descent into hell. The only difference in this version of the Don Juan tale is that his fiancee makes a deal with God and saves him.
Un don un poco diferente que Don Alvaro, Don Juan Tenorio es quizás la versión más famosa del personaje de Don Juan: mintiendo, engañando y matando para conseguir las camas de más de un mil de mujeres. Don Juan y su amigo cercano apuestan quien puede hacer más daño, y aunque Don Juan gana sobre su amigo, viene con precio–mata al padre de su prometida, ella muere del desamor, y él empieza descender al infierno. La única diferencia en esta versión del cuento de Don Juan es que su prometida hace un trato con Dios y lo salva.
