It is no secret that I am a solitary person, and I think it is an easy enough concept to grasp. However, people have a very hard understanding it. Even when they say they do, the majority of the time they don’t; they simply judge me and think I am antisocial.

Being solitary, or being alone, is much different from being lonely. I value the time I have by myself–in fact, most times I prefer it to being with people. This is partly because I love to read and study, both of which I consider solitary activities, but also because when it comes down to it, I like who I am and I like spending time with the person I am: me.

So if I decline plans, it’s not you, it’s me. I am not blowing anyone off; rather, I am putting myself at the top of my priorities. Because when it comes down to it, spending time with myself is, and never will be, a waste. It is always a time to make myself a better person and to enrich my personality and my knowledge.

You should try it once in a while.
