Lady A

Let me start this off by saying country music gets a bad rap. No, there aren’t many songs about tractors (just that one) and there definitely aren’t songs about dogs dying. When I asked one of my friends to name a song that talked about a dog dying after he used the stereotypical argument, he said “Let me get back to you.” Exactly. (And yes, he did grow up listening to country music, and yes, he will remain nameless.)

The Crawford County Fair opened Saturday with a performance by Lady Antebellum, which I excitedly attended. I had already seen Lady Antebellum last summer when they opened for Tim McGraw in Buffalo, but I was happy to see them again, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Lady Antebellum is a country group made up of Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley (in that order in the picture above) that sounds less country than most artists; for example, Brad Paisley or Miranda Lambert. Their songs are easily related to, as most popular music can be, and even the sad(der) ones are fun to sing along to. They were formed in Nashville (of course) in 2006 and have already won numerous ACM and Grammy awards.

Hands down, my favorite Lady A song right now is “Just a Kiss,” which they sang when they were encored back on stage. Perfect hand holding-kissing song 😉

They sang old stuff, new stuff, and current stuff–a perfect mix for the seasoned concertgoer (which I proudly am).

Their lyrics flow perfectly, and most include guy and girl vocals, either together or singly, which is also good for singing along to. Their music puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart 🙂

I encourage anyone who has written off country music to give Lady Antebellum a try…I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Also, their new album, “Own the Night,” comes out September 13, just so you know!
