A Spanish Christmas

This week I had my first Spanish Christmas with my roommate and her family in Cervera de Pisuerga, about two hours north of Palencia.

It was a fun, relaxing three days of eating and drinking. Among other things, we ate lots of Christmas sweets, including turrones, polvorones, dried figs, plums, and other fruits, and many other sweets that I can’t remember the names of. And yes, my friends, you read right: there were no cookies! But I did not even note their absence until right now writing this post, to be honest.

Besides the lack of cookies, Christmas in Spain is very similar to Christmas in the U.S. I even went to church with my roommate’s mom, grandma and uncle.

I have eaten more in these past three days than I ever have before, and this Christmas was one of the best.

My roommate’s family treated me like one of their own, and Santa even came to my roommate’s apartment to leave me a present! 😉

I am so grateful for my roommate and her family for including me in their Christmas celebrations, which also included some card playing, which my grandma will love to hear!

Below are some pictures of my roommate, her mom and I.
