A day trip for the books: Urueña

This past Saturday, my boyfriend and I went to the village of books, literally. Urueña is known as the “Villa del Libro”, and between its 182 residents, it features a stunning six bookshops.

I love browsing for books, and although I can and do read in Spanish, I prefer to read in English. In places like Palencia it is almost impossible to find novels in English (even the classics) so I wasn’t getting my hopes up.

We went to four of the six bookshops, passing up one dedicated to wine and another to music that didn’t appeal to us. The others offered a surprisingly wide variety of books, and they all had at least a shelf of English titles. And yes, I did buy a few!

Just goes to show you that there are trips for all interests out there. The village itself was surprisingly beautiful, built on the top of a hill with wonderful views and with an ancient wall still completely intact.
