5 things I’ve learned thus far in my cooking adventures

Over the past few months, I have been trying to make at least one new recipe a week, and I have learned quite a few things from the process:

1. Always, always, always have all of your ingredients chopped, measured and ready to go before you start cooking–even before you boil water. Cooking happens fast and you have to be ready or things could get ruined.

2. Eggs can be your best friends–or your worst enemies. Eggs are quick and easy to make, and are wonderfully nutritious. The disadvantage is learning how to crack them without making a mess or breaking the yolk. The easiest way to learn is simply to keep cracking. Practice makes perfect. Just always have the garbage can next to you so you can easily dispose of shells. I am still learning this one.

3. Not everything will always turn out how you planned it, and sometimes it be better than you expected. Just keep on trying!

4. Eating healthy is more expensive. Accept that and move on.

5. Don’t be afraid to try new things, even if they seem difficult to make or if you think you wouldn’t like them. You’ll be pleasantly surprised, I promise.

I have made some really delicious meals that I plan on making again, and some that I liked but wouldn’t necessarily want to eat again. But I have not made something that I absolutely didn’t like–even if I was iffy, I ended up liking it. This just goes to show that you don’t know until you try. So keep on trying.

   ¡Buena suerte!
