A Thought for Thursday

“I did not know it then, but Frida had already become the most important fact in my life. And would continue to be, up to the moment she died, 27 years later.”
-Diego Rivera

Today is Diego Rivera’s 125th birthday.

A short history on Diego for those of you who don’t know: Diego was a Mexican muralist. He was married to Frida Kahlo, perhaps Mexico’s most famous painter. She was his third wife and 20 years his junior. He was never faithful to her, which is a story for another day.

What one must know, however, is that Frida reacted first by leaving and divorcing him, but when they were both miserable in that situation, they got back together and cheated on each other, happily, for the rest of their lives. No, I’m not a fan of unfaithfulness, but I am a fan of finding the one person you can’t live without and figuring out how to make it work. And if the only way to do that is to cheat on each other, then so be it.

After they figured that out, they lived the rest of their lives together in love.
